My name is Daisy. I am 6 years old. I am a Newfoundland dog, also called a Newfie.
There have been many famous newfies in history. One was owned by Captain Meriwether Lewis. His newfie’s name was “Seaman”. He traveled with Lewis and Clark when President Jefferson sent them to find a route to the Pacific Ocean and back. Speaking of Presidents; Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hays and James Buchanan all owned newfies who lived in the White House! How cool is that!! Have you ever read “Peter Pan”? Well, Nana in the story was a newfie. Newfies are also excellent swimmers and act like life guards and can rescue you when you are in the water.
I do like to swim
but I love to hear children read stories to me. So, when I was young my
mom and I went to school. I had to take some tests so I could be a
Therapy Dog. The tests were easy for me. My family says that I am a
very special girl! When I became a Registered Therapy Dog with Delta
Society Pet Partners, my family was very proud of me! My mom also
registered me for R.E.A.D.. I have been a working dog for 5 years now.
I love what I do! I am a celebrity in our neighborhood because a lot of
the kids from my elementary school, Sweet Apple, live there. At
Halloween time my Dad can’t believe how many kids know me! Well yeah, I
love Sweet Apple Elementary!
If you see me in the school hallway I will give you a big newfie smile.
