Cooperstown’s Page

Wag, wag, wiggle, wag!

Hi Everyone - my name is Cooperstown!  I am a Golden Labrador and I am five years old.  I am so excited that you are reading my web page!

My story begins when I was 8 months old.  My very first family could not keep me and took me to an animal control shelter.  I like going lots of different places but I did not like going there.  Fortunately, the wonderful people at the Atlanta Dog Squad thought I was cute and well behaved and they got me into a wonderful foster home.  My foster family took great care of me and I will always be grateful to them.  They took me to an adoption event and that is where I met my Mommy and Daddy.  I was on my best behavior and looked my cutest that day and I was so excited when they said they wanted to take me home.  They named me Cooperstown (after the baseball Hall of Fame) but I will come if you call me Cooper!

My Mommy says that I have really good manners and a genuine love of people and thought that I would make a good therapy dog.  I like to make Mommy happy so I was glad to spend time with her and learn to walk nice on my leash, and other things like sit, down, and stay.  I finished my obedience training and then Mommy took me to my therapy dog test.  In August of 2011 I passed my test and became a therapy dog with Happy Tails Pet Therapy, Inc.  Since then I have been going to visit people at assisted living facilities, a hospice, a rehabilitation center and a children's psychiatric hospital.  I really enjoy getting all of the pats from people and making them smile!

The next thing my Mommy started doing was teaching me how great books are and how fun it is when she sits on the floor and reads to me.  So far my favorite book is Go! Dog! Go!  I listened to it a lot as Mommy taught me some new manners during story time.  Then Mommy let me read with children.  I really, really like to sit beside them and have them read to me.  It is especially great fun when they give me a belly rub or scratch behind my ears while they do it.

When I am not working I love to go for walks, chase my ball, and curl up on the couch with Mommy or Daddy and watch a baseball game.  Sometimes I get to go to the beach and play too!  I love walking in the waves and watching the sunset after a long day of sleeping curled up in the sand.

Thanks for reading my story and I hope to hear from you.  I promise I will write back to you.  I hope to see you sometime soon and listen to you read me a book!

Don’t forget that you can email me -- and I will email you back!

Kisses and Wags,
