Meow, I mean woof!

My name is Wicket. I will be 6 years old in September. My daddy calls me puppy mutt because I am a mixed breed between a Papillion and a Pomeranian. In the summer of 2008 I was rescued from a puppy mill by Animal Control. I was placed in foster care and in October 2008 my mommy adopted me from the Humane Society of NE Georgia when I was just 8 weeks old.

My best friends are the kitty cats I live with. I love to play chase with them. I love other doggies too but I just have play dates with those. I am the only dog in the house so sometimes I think I am a cat.  Not only do I love cats and dogs but more importantly, I love all humans, especially children.

I have always had a lot of energy and was really hyper so my mommy had to wait for me to calm down quite a bit before she could have me work as a therapy dog. I have gone through obedience classes and had so much fun making the trainer fall in love with me. My trainer even suggested to my mommy that I would be a great therapy dog! My mommy works at a school and she's taken me to her school to help children learn about positive dog training. After she saw how great I did at the school she decided in the summer of 2014 to go through a training and have me evaluated to be a therapy dog.  I did GREAT, the evaluator loved me and I hope you will love me too!

I am a registered therapy dog with Pet Partners and now part of a R.E.A.D team and READing Paws. Since my mommy is a counselor I have been able to work with children who have had sad things happen to them. I love to make children and adults feel better. I love being a therapy dog. Now, I can't wait for the school year to start because I will be visiting my mommy's school and having children teach me how to read. I really love the Skippy Jon Jones books. Skippy Jon Jones reminds me a lot of me. He is a cat who wants to be a chihuahua and I am a dog who thinks it would be great to be a cat. I also want to be able to go to libraries and have more children read to me. Like my mommy I love books and I hope you do too!

Please don't forget to write to me and tell me how you are doing and what your favorite stories are.  Meow and Woof! My email address is Wicket@READingPaws.org
